ANGLIA RUSKIN UNIVERSITY: A MODERN UNIVERSITY WITH A GREAT HERITAGE

In 1858, the English art critic, artist and social thinker, John Ruskin, opened a School of Art in Cambridge, England. The art school grew to become Anglia Ruskin University, a modern institution with university status conferred by Her Majesty's Government. The Cambridge School of Art still forms an important part of Anglia Ruskin. The University now has another major campus in the city of Chelmsford, just 35 minutes from London and in Peterborough, a city in the rural east of England.

Anglia Ruskin has grown to become a modern, respected institution, educating around 31,500 students from over 120 countries on our campuses and overseas, and is one of the largest universities in eastern England, delivering courses that provide relevant work-based skills.

The University boasts three campuses: Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.  Study Abroad courses are offered in Cambridge or Chelmsford, both widely considered to be among the best places to live in the UK. Both are safe, easy to get around and with a good standard of living. Cambridge is world-famous as a seat of learning and culture. Chelmsford is the county town of Essex and is a cathedral city famous as the birthplace of radio. Both cities are within an hour of London, so you can enjoy all that our capital city has to offer - without the high cost of inner city living.

From the start you'll be immersing yourself in student life, both academic and social.  As a student at Anglia Ruskin, you will benefit from all the facilities available. You'll automatically become a member of the Students' Union, an independent body which looks after your interests and organizes clubs, societies, outings and events for students. Also, Anglia Ruskin thinks that you will like it so much, they will guarantee to offer you a place for a Masters degree if you meet the minimum entry requirements!

Anglia Ruskin has an award-winning International Student Services Team to support you during your semester or year abroad!

Program Course Information:

Students are fully integrated into the academic and social life of the University and study alongside British students at either  campus. As the campuses are located in different cities that are quite a distance apart, you can take classes in Cambridge OR Chelmsford, not both.

In each semester you will take 60 credits. You are required to study at least half of your programme in the same department (i.e. 30 Anglia Ruskin credits per trimester). This can be a mixture of modules of either 15 or 30 credits as long as it adds up to 60 credits overall.

15 Anglia Ruskin credits is the  equivalent to 4 US  credits.

For available modules (courses) , please go to https://web.anglia.ac.uk/modulecatalogue/. Be sure to click on each module. It will give you a module description, any pre-requisites, and the semester it is available.

All students will need to complete the Anglia Ruskin Learning Agreement and upload it into their online application.

Accommodations:

Cambridge:

Host Family: Live with a family in the local Cambridge community. You'll have your own bedroom and 2 meals (breakfast and dinner) will be provided. SUNY Cortland will arrange your placement on your behalf through Homestay Consultancy. As of spring 2024, this is the primary housing option for Cambridge.

Residence Halls and Off-Campus Apartments: You can also stay in halls of residence on and off-campus and shared houses within two miles of campus that are managed by the university. You can also stay in halls managed by organizations that the university partners with.  In most, you'll have your own room, share a kitchen and hallway, and sometimes the bathroom. Some rooms are en-suite with their own shower and toilet and some are studio apartments with their own kitchenette, shower and toilet.

Please note that availability in residence halls and off-campus apartments are currently very limited due to a surge in student housing demand in Cambridge.

Chelmsford: You will stay in the Student Village on-campus, with flats for three, five or six rooms. Rooms are private and
most are en-suite.

On both campuses you'll be within walking distance of shops and supermarkets. There are no meal plans, most students will cook on their own, although there are eateries on and off-campus where you can buy meals.

Visa Requirements

If you are coming to study for one semester, you will be on a student visitor visa which you will obtain upon entry to the U.K.

For study of  two semesters, you'll need to obtain a Tier 4 student visa. Guidance on how to obtain a Tier 4 visa will be provided by the SUNY Cortland International Programs Office.
