Develop leadership skills, community-based asset mapping, risk management, and cultural competency as you explore the mountains of Nepal! Led by Professor Ken Cohen, participants will travel to Nepal for 12 days. Trek and climb some of the highest mountains in the world with the guidance of local sherpas with decades of experience. Immerse yourself into the unique and fascinating culture of Nepal this summer.

Please note that while a reasonable level of fitness is required for this program, treks will be conducted at several speeds depending on the ability levels and comfort of the participants.

Please Note: This budget is built on a model of 10 participants. If 20 participants are accepted to the program, the cost of the Program Fee will decrease.

Participants will receive credit for REC 478. Course substitutions may be possible. Contact Faculty-Leader Ken Cohen for more information.


Travel Information:

All students are required to take the group flight. Flight details will be announced during the Pre-Departure process.

Students will travel with Faculty-Leader Ken Cohen and SUNY Cortland staff. Flight is paid for out of pocket and is not included in the Program Fee that is billed by SUNY Cortland. See the program budget above for more information.


Visa Information:

Travelers to Nepal are required to obtain a visa upon arrival into Kathmandu at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Once accepted into the program, participants must review full instructions on obtaining a Nepal Tourist Visa by downloading the complete instructions here: Nepal Tourist Visa Instructions.

More details will be released upon acceptance, or contact the International Programs Office. For now, please make sure you have a non-expired official passport at your time of application.


Accommodations:

All participants will stay in hotels (Himalayan Sherpa Inn, Sherpagaon/Lama Hotel, Water Tower Hotel) and local inns.
