The Dingle peninsula on the southwest coast of County Kerry is world famous for its magnificent scenery: mountains cascading into the ocean, lush green farmland, and charming fishing villages. The town of Dingle is colorful and lovely, with sandy beaches, seafood restaurants, art galleries, craft shops, summer theater, and pubs filled with fantastic musical performances. You do not need to be an art major to apply for this program, but should have interest and some personal experience with painting, drawing, print making, or photography.

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student status, Practicing Artists, Art Educators

Course Information:

The program offers two different courses:

  • Painting/Drawing

             or

  • Printmaking/Photography

Painting and Drawing (Six credit hours)

Painting and Drawing Syllabus

Earning six credit hours in three weeks will require intensity and focus. Each weekday will begin with breakfast and a brief lecture. Monday through Friday mornings will be devoted to drawing in the studios; afternoons will be spent painting outdoors.After dinner Mondays through Thursdays, there will be critiques of the day's work as well as talks by local artists, poets or historians. Friday evenings and weekends will be free for independent work or travel. Details concerning supplies and materials will be available from the instructor upon acceptance to the program

Print Making and Photography (Six undergraduate or graduate credit hours)

Earn six credits in this program designed for undergraduate students, practicing art educators, and graduate students. This mixed media course will be taught by Patricia L. Hunsinger. Monday through Friday mornings will be devoted to lectures and demonstrations in the studio; afternoons will be spent working on your assignments in the studio and photographing outdoors. Friday evenings and weekends will be free for independent work or travel. Work will include Photography, and Print Making. Special lectures and exhibits by Irish guest artists throughout the program.

About the Faculty Leaders:

Patricia Hunsinger: Central New York Artist and leader of the Print Making and Photography program, Patricia L. Hunsinger, has taught at a variety of schools, including Parsons New School for Design, Syracuse University, Long Island University at C.W. Post, SUNY Cortland, Ithaca College and Cazenovia College. Patricia prides herself in building student technical knowledge while inciting a love of learning and creating. You may view Patricia L. Stephen Clark: Stephen Clark is leader of the Painting and Drawing program. Clark is a nationally and regionally exhibiting artist. He lives and works in Central New York, where the landscape provides continual inspiration, and is Assistant Professor of Painting at SUNY Cortland. Stephen Clark's work can be viewed online at: www.stephenalexanderclark.com

George Dugan: (Emeritus) Founder of the Dingle Summer Art Program, who lead the program from the 1990s to 2015. From the State University of New York College at Cortland, George Dugan was a painter who has had vast numbers of exhibitions throughout the United States and in Ireland and is well represented in private collections. He served as Artist in Residence at the University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse University, and SUNY Binghamton, and has received numerous awards and grants, including a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in teaching and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.


Travel Information:

Group flight with instructors is strongly encouraged. If you are not able to take the group flight, you must meet the group upon arrival at Shannon Airport for the bus ride to Dingle.


Accommodations:

All Participants stay in shared cottages, coordinated by Dingle Global Education. Participants are two to a bedroom, unless otherwise notified.
