Federation University Australia, established in 1870, is the third oldest educational institution in Australia. Federation University Australia is located in the historical city of Ballarat, state of Victoria, about one hour easy train or bus commute to the cosmopolitan capital, Melbourne, and an hour to the coastal city of Geelong.

Since the university's inception, the student population has grown to more than 18,000 students undertaking studies in 50 specialized areas across nine schools.
