The University of Cumbria was formed in 2007 from an amalgamation of St. Martin's College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts, and the Cumbrian campuses of the University of Central Lancashire. It now boasts over 12,000 students.

The University offers a very high-quality learning experience in a supportive environment which enables you to achieve your personal and professional potential at whichever campus you choose to study within the University of Cumbria system.

The main campuses are located in the historic cities of Lancaster and Carlisle and both cities enjoy a city centre, castles, museums, boutique shops, restaurants, and coffee shops located a short walk from either campus . Local nightlife buzzes with live music, nightclubs, theatre, and film events. Both cities are an easy 2-3 hour commute to/from London by high speed train.

By contrast, the Ambleside campus is located in a major tourist destination in the dramatic mountains of the Lake District, near Lake Windermere.

The International Office arranges day-trips and social activities to help you make new friends and integrate into the community. In addition to a wonderful support team and services, Cumbria enjoys some great sports facilities at their campuses. Sport plays a significant part in the life of a Cumbria student and there are also clubs and societies to join such as: football, music appreciation, and photography.
